Isolation of rotavirus from asymptomatic dogs in Brazil [Isolamento de rotavírus de cães assintomáticos no Brasil]

چکیده
Rotaviruses (Reoviridae: Rotavirus), the causative agents of acute diarrhea in mammals, including man and birds, possess a nonenveloped triple-layered icosahedral capsid about 75nm diameter, with a characteristic 11segmented genome of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) (Estes and Cohen, 1989). The genus Rotavirus is subdivided both serologically, based on the inner capsid VP6 protein, and electropherotypically, based on the arrangement of the 11 dsRNA segments, into seven groups (A to G). Groups A, B, and C are found in both humans and animals, whereas groups D, E, F, and G have been found only in animals to date. In most cases, the electrophoretic pattern of the genome of group A rotaviruses is composed of four high-molecular-weight dsRNA segments (numbered 1 to 4), two middle-sized segments (5 and 6), a distinctive triplet of segments (7 to 9), and two smaller segments (10 and 11) (Estes and Kapikian, 2007).

Impact of silver ions and silver nanoparticles on the plant growth and soil microorganisms
There is a growing consumer market for products that proclaim to decrease microorganism counts to prevent infections. Most of these products are loaded with silver in its ionic or nanoparticle form. Through use or during production, these particles can find their way into the soil and cause an impact in microbial and plant communities. This study aims to evaluate the impact of silver based part...
متن کاملDetection and molecular characterization of piroplasms species from naturally infected dogs in southeast Brazil Detecção e caracterização molecular de piroplasmas em cães naturalmente infectados no Sudeste do Brasil
Rangelia vitalii is a protozoon described from dogs in the south and southeast regions of Brazil. It is phylogenetically related to Babesia spp. that infects dogs, but data on this enigmatic parasite is still limited. The aim of this work was to detect piroplasm species in dogs in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by 18S rRNA gene-based PCR assay, restriction fragment length polymorphism (RF...
متن کاملHigh Levels of Sunflower Crushed in Diets for Feedlot F Lambs Depress the Performance and Carcass Quality
This study aimed to evaluate the performance, some carcass characteristics from feedlot lambs receiving sunflower crushed (SC) in the diet on partial replacement of soybean meal. The experimental design was randomized block with four levels of SC in the diet (0, 10, 20 and 30% of dry matter (DM)). There was a linear reduction of 0.02; 0.003; 0.003 and 0.17% for each percentage unit of added SC ...
متن کاملMolecular detection of Hepatozoon canis and Babesia canis vogeli in domestic dogs from Cuiabá, Brazil Detecção molecular de Hepatozoon canis e Babesia canis vogeli em cães domésticos de Cuiabá, Brasil
The objective of this study was to report for the first time infection by Hepatozoon spp. and Babesia spp. in 10 dogs from the city of Cuiabá, State of Mato Grosso, central-western Brazil. A pair of primers that amplifies a 574 bp fragment of the 18S rRNA of Hepatozoon spp., and a pair of primers that amplifies a 551 bp fragment of the gene 18S rRNA for Babesia spp. were used. Six dogs were pos...
متن کاملEvaluation of biological activity of Polygala boliviensis in experimental models
The plants of the genus Polygala (Polygalaceae) are employed in folk medicine for the treatment of several pathologies, including disorders of the bowel and kidney, as anesthetic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory. The present study was undertaken to investigate the antiedematogenic and antinociceptive activities of methanolic extract of Polygala boliviensis A. W. Benn (MEPB) in mice. The antin...
